In a large bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
Add flour, salt, butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Rolls:
Punch down the dough and divide into 10–12 equal portions.
Flatten each portion, place a small amount of cheese in the center, and fold the dough around it, pinching to seal.
Second Rise:
Place the rolls on a greased baking tray, cover, and let rise for another 30–40 minutes.
Bake:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the rolls with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or herbs if desired.
Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
