Savory Mini Bobotie Meat Pies with a Spiced Filling

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Sauté the onion and garlic until soft and fragrant.

Add the ground meat and cook until browned.

Stir in curry powder, turmeric, cinnamon, and cloves. Cook for 2-3 minutes until spices are fragrant.

Mix in the soaked bread, raisins, and apricot jam. Season with salt and pepper.

Remove from heat and let cool slightly before stirring in the egg to bind the mixture.

Prepare the Pastry:

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Roll out the pastry sheet and cut into squares or circles large enough to line a mini muffin tin or small baking cups.

Gently press the pastry into each cup and trim any excess.

Assemble the Pies:

Spoon the meat filling into each pastry cup, filling them almost to the top.

Brush the edges of the pastry with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Bake:

Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the pastry is golden and crisp.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
