Cupcakes
Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a 12-cup muffin tray with liners.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then add vanilla and red food coloring.
Stir in buttermilk and vinegar. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until smooth.
Divide batter evenly among cupcake liners (about ¾ full).
Bake 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool completely before frosting.
