Golden Brown Apple Dumplings with Flaky Pie Crust

Prepare the Apples: Peel and core the Granny Smith apples. Cut them in half if they are very large.

Make the Filling: In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Fill the Apples: Place each apple (or half apple) on a square of pie crust. Spoon some sugar mixture into the apple core and dot with butter.

Wrap the Dumplings: Fold the pie crust up around the apple, pinching edges to seal. Place dumplings seam-side down in a greased baking dish.

Prepare the Sauce: In a saucepan, bring water, remaining sugar mixture, and vanilla to a simmer. Stir until sugar dissolves, then pour over dumplings.

Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Serve: Spoon syrup from the pan over dumplings. Enjoy warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
