In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, melted butter, remaining sugar, and salt. Mix in the yeast mixture.
Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let Dough Rise:
Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Tresse:
Divide the dough into three equal portions. Roll each into a long rope.
Braid the three ropes together and pinch the ends to seal.
Cook the Donut Tresse:
Heat oil in a deep skillet or pan to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully place the braided dough into the oil and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 3–4 minutes per side.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Add Toppings:
Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with your favorite glaze while slightly warm.
