Classic Apple Dumplings

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.

Prepare Apples:

Peel, core, and optionally slice apples in half.

Prepare Pastry:

Roll out pie crusts and cut into squares large enough to wrap each apple.

Assemble Dumplings:

Place each apple in the center of a pastry square.

Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and nuts if using.

Top each apple with small pieces of butter.

Fold pastry around the apple and seal the edges.

Prepare Glaze:

In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and vanilla. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2–3 minutes.

Bake Dumplings:

Place dumplings in the prepared baking dish. Pour glaze over the top.

Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until pastry is golden and apples are tender.

Serve:

Let cool slightly, then serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
