Cheesy Twists: Homemade Cheese Twisted Bread

In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until a soft, elastic dough forms (about 8–10 minutes by hand or 5–6 minutes with a mixer).

First Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling:
Mix the shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, softened butter, garlic powder, and dried herbs in a small bowl.

Shape the Bread:
Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×16 inches). Spread the cheese filling evenly over the dough. Roll the dough lengthwise into a tight log, then cut in half lengthwise and twist the halves together to form a braid or twist.

Second Rise:
Place the twisted bread on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let it rise for 30 minutes.

Bake:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the bread with beaten egg and bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Cool and Serve:
Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm for the best cheesy experience!
