Choose fresh, plump ginger with small yellowish growth buds or “eyes.” Organic ginger from a grocery store often works best, as it hasn’t been treated to prevent sprouting.
Prepare the Pot:
Use a wide, shallow container because ginger grows horizontally. Fill it with rich, well-draining potting soil.
Plant the Ginger:
Break the ginger into small pieces, each with at least one “eye.”
Place the pieces 1–2 inches deep in the soil, buds facing up.
Space pieces a few inches apart to give them room to grow.
Water and Cover:
Lightly water the soil until damp, not soggy.
Mist regularly to keep humidity high. Ginger prefers moist soil.
Provide Sunlight:
Place the pot in indirect sunlight. Ginger thrives in warmth but dislikes direct harsh sun.
