Sweet Heart-Shaped Sugar Donuts

Activate the Yeast
In a large bowl, mix warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle in the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy and bubbly.

Mix Wet Ingredients
Whisk in the melted butter and egg until fully combined.

Form the Dough
Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a workable dough forms.

Knead
Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).

Shape Donuts
Punch down the dough, roll it to ½ inch thick, and cut out hearts using a cookie cutter.

Second Rise
Let the cutout hearts rise for another 30 minutes while heating the oil.

Fry
Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot. Fry the donuts carefully until golden brown on both sides.

Drain and Cool
Transfer donuts to paper towels to drain. Let them cool slightly before enjoying!
