How to Start a Car with a Dead Battery

If your car has a manual gearbox, you can try this method.

Steps:

Turn the ignition to the ON position.

Put the car in second gear and press the clutch fully.

Ask someone to push the car until it reaches about 5–10 km/h (3–6 mph).

Release the clutch quickly while pressing the accelerator.

The engine should start—keep it running to recharge the battery.

3. Using a Portable Jump Starter (Best for Emergencies)

Portable jump starters are small power packs designed for this situation.

Steps:

Connect the jump starter’s clamps to the battery (red to positive, black to negative).

Turn on the jump starter.

Try starting your car.

Once it runs, disconnect and recharge the jump starter later.
