Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
Step 2 – Make the Cheese Sauce
In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Stir in flour, salt, and pepper, cooking for 1 minute to form a roux.
Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
Optional: Stir in shredded cheese for an extra cheesy sauce.
Step 3 – Layer the Potatoes
Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish.
Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
Repeat with the remaining potatoes and sauce, ensuring all slices are coated.
Step 4 – Bake
Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes.
Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
Step 5 – Serve
Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
